Tribus Monthly Newsletter - January 2025

Introduction

We're back with our first newsletter of the year. We hope everyone has settled back into work and is ready to take on 2025. January has been a busy month at Tribus – as usual! From attending industry events, sharing our 2025 digital predictions and most importantly moving into our new office.

What better way to start the new year than with a new office?! Our address hasn’t changed as we decided to stay in the company of the wonderful people at The Tannery on Kirkstall Road. The move to a new, freshened-up workspace has been welcomed by the team. New chairs, new meeting rooms, new tech, new fridge, same trusted coffee machine.

To those clients and partners who have visited the new space we hope you loved it as much as we do and to anyone who wants to visit for a coffee and tour then let the team know, it would be great to see you all.

The Fold - Changes in User Behaviour

Over the years, user behaviour on websites has changed. For better or for worse? That’s for you to decide. Our website development team truly believes that user behaviour has changed and how people use websites is different now compared to how people used them five / ten years ago.

Knowing how users interact on your site is crucial in capturing attention, keeping attention and using that attention to convert users.

In Tribus’ latest blog post, we discuss this matter in detail. Specifically, we cover one of the most important parts of any website - ‘the fold’, and why it’s not what it used to be and why the change in user behaviour is to blame.

Head of Website Development Richard Blyth touches on how to ‘win back the fold’ and ensure users don’t just scroll past it.

AWS Recap

On Wednesday 29th January, technical director Mark Spilsbury, Junior Developer Luke Frost & Lead Developer Nick Docherty attended the AWS Recap event.

The AWS Recap event is a summary of the key announcements and insights from AWS re:Invent, AWS's major annual cloud computing conference. These recap events are held in various locations to share the latest developments in cloud technology with local communities.

At the event, Mark, Luke and Nick learned about new advancements in areas such as AI, machine learning and security; something Tribus is developing with numerous clients.

The sessions provided valuable information on how these innovations can enhance business operations.

Participating in this event allowed our software development team to stay updated on the latest AWS offerings and consider how to integrate these technologies into our projects to better serve our clients.

Tribus’ Process Improvement Team

At Tribus, we are proud of our ability to quickly take on large-scale projects due to our manageable size and extensive shared digital knowledge across all departments. This allows us to efficiently deliver complex digital solutions.

Our new Process Improvement Team is essential to our operations. Led by Lead Developer Chris Richards, this team continuously reviews Tribus' ongoing processes, gathers internal and external feedback, and develops strategies to enhance our output, with the primary objective of consistently delivering digital excellence.

This month, the team focused on Slack, a channel widely used by businesses for instant messaging, team communication, and faster project execution. The Process Improvement Team analysed Tribus' Slack usage and discovered that 58% of messages were sent in direct messages.

Based on this analysis, Tribus is taking steps to ensure that project-related messages are shared in public channels to prevent the loss of valuable content and context.

The team is continuing to refine strategies to achieve this goal and maintain smooth operations at Tribus Digital.
