Tribus Monthly Newsletter - July 2024

We have now officially entered into the second half of the year... is it too early to start playing Sprout Flicker?

This month has been busy for Tribus Digital from attending the Construction News Awards, to holding our very own annual Tribus Strategy Day at the Everyman Cinema Leeds.

What was most important to us this month was the additional time spent with our team discussing future plans, recognising achievement and even welcoming new staff.

Constructions News Awards

This month, Tribus' Adam Spry, Laura Ellis, Imogen Lassen and Ian Horsfall attended the Construction Awards evening in London with Willmott Dixon.

The Knowledge Hub, an innovative, first-to-market, web-based portal, designed to support bid teams made up our entry. Although a win wasn't secured we had an amazing time celebrating with other nominated businesses.

Being shortlisted for the awards is an achievement in itself, and we are incredibly proud of it!

Thank you to CN Awards for a enjoyable night - we hope to see you next year!

Annual Tribus Strategy Day

The annual Tribus Strategy Day kicked off with a presentation held at the Everyman Cinema, where we highlighted our successes from the past year and outlined our mission for the year ahead.

These strategy days allow us to take a step back and look at the amazing bespoke digital work we have produced with our clients across the construction, fintech, charity, ESG and retail industries.

We reviewed the output of our new digital marketing data division teams, which has helped bolster Tribus' positioning as digital transformation specialists.

Senior Developer Chris Richards launched Tribus' new digital process Improvement team. The responsibility of this new team is to understand challenges around digital processes and the day to day workings at Tribus.

Our Creative Director Nathan Parks showcased the motion projects the digital design team has been working on to help clients visualise complicated processes.

Director Laura Ellis shared client feedback with the team, giving valuable insights into our performance and highlighting areas of success and opportunities for improvement.

And, most importantly, we recognised our staff who work so hard all year round and put everything into Tribus. Special shoutouts were given to Shane (Junior Front End Developer), Dan (Test Engineer), Oliver (Head of Digital Marketing), Ian (Head of Delivery), Richard (Head of Website Development), and Elliot (Lead Creative Developer). Their ambition, innovation and ownership makes us all incredibly proud of their contributions. These individuals represent the values of Tribus, making it a great place to work and grow.

Embracing our inner child and went to Go Ape at Temple Newsam! Although the weather was rain, rain rain we pushed through. It was made quickly clear that an outdoor adventure career change wasn't on the cards for anyone.

Google U turn on third party cookies

On Tuesday, 23rd July 2024 we woke up to breaking news: ‘Google is scrapping its plan to get rid of third-party cookies.’ While digital marketers are excited, there’s also some unease, ‘What does this mean?’ A sudden change like this can’t be good... or can it?

OpenAI Launches SearchGPT: A New AI-Powered Search Engine

OpenAI has unveiled a new prototype search engine, SearchGPT, powered by the advanced GPT-4 language model. This innovative search tool aims to enhance the way users interact with search results by providing summarised and organised information, rather than just a list of links.

Users can ask follow-up questions and explore related content through a sidebar, making the search experience more intuitive and engaging.

Partnerships with Major Publishers

To address concerns from publishers about maintaining their traffic and revenue, OpenAI has established partnerships with major media organisations such as News Corp and The Atlantic. These agreements ensure that content is displayed clear, giving publishers control over how their material appears in search results.

Future Plans and Integration

Tribus aims to keep up-to-date with all tech advances. With the news headlines screaming about AI we will try to deliver updates on advances as clear as possible without getting caught up in the noise.

Currently, SearchGPT is only available to a limited group of test users, but there are plans to integrate its most effective features into ChatGPT in the near future.

We believe this development positions OpenAI as a significant competitor to established search engines like Google and Bing, which are also incorporating AI features to enhance their services.

Tribus will be posting more articles on AI as we continue to work with partner and clients in this field.

Figma Config 2024: What's new?

Introduction

Our digital design team at Tribus virtually joined the Figma Config live event where Figma announced multiple updates to the current platform. We’re very excited to share these new features and explain how we will be utilising them at Tribus.

How do we use Figma currently?

We use Figma primarily in our User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) design teams. Figma allows our designers to create, collaborate, and prototype in real-time with our clients and partners, ensuring that our projects are effective.

Figma Slides with AI Enhancements

Figma Slides introduces a new way to create and manage presentations in your browser. With the feature 'real time collaboration’ helping designers and developers work together with ease, making it easier to present and discuss design ideas with both internal team members and clients.

The AI enhancements on the new Figma slides will speed up our design process by generating images, text and designs with just a few clicks. This helps our designers, but for developers, these AI generated designs provide clear visual references. Which helps in translating the designs into code quickly and accurately.

Code Connect

At Tribus our digital designers and developers work closely together to keep projects aligned and running smoothly. And with the new code Connect feature, this will fit in seamlessly with how Tribus operates.

What is Code Connect?

Code Connect simply is a feature that enhances the handoff process from design to development, reducing inconsistencies and errors. Making it much easier for developers to implement designs as seen from designers.

Variables 2.0 & Auto Layout +

Tying in with Code Connect, the updated Variables 2.0 and Auto Layout + helps us as designers keep better control over our designs, making them easily adaptable to any device. Specifically, the Auto Layout + feature allows designers to have much more control over responsive layouts.

This simplifies the development process, as developers are receiving designs that are already optimised for responsiveness, which then minimises the need for adjustments from the developers side.

Responsive Prototypes and How They Help Tribus’s Design and Development Team

Responsive Prototypes allow designers to create prototypes that closely mimic real world performance across all devices. Helping Tribus’ development team understand how the final products should look, function and feel. Which ultimately leads to a more accurate development process.

For clients, this means a more refined end product. They can see a realistic preview of how their design will look and perform before it is fully developed. These early insights will help in aligning the final product with their expectations.

Overall

With all that being said, Tribus are excited to act on these new features and bring the new wave of design and development right to our current and future clients. We as a digital agency will always stay at the forefront of the latest industry news to ensure top quality work is carried out and sustained.
